A Moment in Time That Changed Everything - The 44th Anniversary of a Homicide
When a homicide occurs within a family, everyone suffers irreparably: some in silence, some take on the vocal advocacy role, others in a sense, take on a kind of perpetual fetal position and are not able to tough it out or seek help.
As the years pass, you observe certain rituals- perhaps visiting the gravesite, creating an annual event, or scholarship, taking on the passion of your loved one in their memory… and so many other permutations.
You tuck them in your heart and know that they are there in spirit.
You cannot realistically move on in life without evolving (i.e. making something lasting and positive out of a very horrendous situation.)
Over the years, writing and podcasting about crossing the abyss from victim to survivor and then thriver, is indeed worth it.
Writing has been a means of therapy for me, along with counseling. You think you will never recover… but you do, IF you finally embrace the fact that your loved one wants you to carry on in a meaningful way!
This year, I wanted to observe the date in a creative new manner.
The days of being engulfed with grief are thankfully over for me, to be replaced with respect and continuing to build a legacy of ‘never forgotten.’
The life of Donald W. Gore, struck down at age 47 in the prime of life, was not taken without consequence. His life mattered, overcoming many challenges as a youth and accomplishing much in entrepreneurial endeavors and as a motorcycle racing champion of the late 50s and 60’s.
His worth ethic was outstanding, providing for his family as a number one priority! He touched so many lives and helped many others as well!
